Bento Birthday Parties

Both my children celebrate their birthdays during the first quarter of the year. We usually do a joint birthday celebration for them and invite all of their close friends and family members.  This year, I decided to make their parties separate but to keep them very small. For Dawn, she was turning 5 so I asked her to only invite 5 of her friends to our house.  For Troy, on the other hand, I asked him to invite 8 friends, also following his birthday age.  We decided to keep his party in school separate since he also wanted to celebrate with all his classmates.

Dawn wanted a My Little Pony themed party while Troy wanted a Star Wars themed party. With that, I ordered fondant cakes from Jennie of Love Desserts for the two separate occasions. I also decorated our place with pastel balloons for Dawn's party and long 'light saber' blue and white balloons for Troy's party.
Now here's the fun part. I ordered themed Bento boxes for the kids and they all loved it! We served this in Troy's school party too. It's the easiest way to instantly up your game for themed parties. My kids were ecstatic when they saw their meals. I did not tell them until the day of the party so that it will also be a surprise for them.
I love Bento Mommas! It looks good and tastes great! We had cheese sandwiches and nuggets for Dawn's party and Spaghetti and nuggets for Troy's. I also appreciate the fact that they were very accommodating with our special requests. They created a special box of Pomodoro spaghetti with cheese sandwich for our vegetarian guest.

Marshmallow Shot Glasses

So how was your holiday? Here's something fun that i learned to do during the Christmas season.  It's a cute way to serve dessert on your next dinner party or just something fun to do with the kids on that lazy rainy saturday afternoon.

Step 1 - Insert a bbq stick at the center of the marshmallow and roast it on an open fire (you can start singing now...). It would have been nicer to roast it over a fireplace. Unfortunately, we don't have that in Manila so the burner will have to do for now. Make sure not to overdo the roasting. Around 3 seconds per side will do.
Step 2 - Once the outer later is brown and toasted, hold the sides lightly and pull the stick out. You should get the soft middle part out with the stick.
Step 3 - And there you have it! Your marshmallow shot glasses! If you'd like to use it as a cup for drinks, you will need to cover the inner base with nutella or any chocolate spread first. And put them in the freezer until the chocolate hardens. This way the liquid will not leak out. The easiest way to serve this would be to put ice cream in it and serve immediately.

Cheers, everyone! Here's to a fun and fruitful 2015!

The Making of My #MYOH2014

Are you hooked on Havaianas?

Through the years, I have had a few pairs of Havaianas - a pair i bought years ago just to see what the fuss is all about, another pair from the US, and a pair given to my daughter as a gift.  The truth is, I was never really hooked. I still thought it was too pricey for a pair of rubber flip flops.

Then came the invite to check out this year's Make Your Own Havaianas (#MYOH2014). There has always been so much excitement around this event year after year so i decided to see what the rave is all about.

The theme, of course, was Brazillian.  Upon entering the venue, you can already feel a fun vibe in the air. There were four color wheels with rubber soles, straps and pins that you can play around to mix and match.
After i checked the order forms, we immediately stationed ourselves near the assembly area where the colorful rubber soles and straps await.

There were so much pretty food plus fun entertainment

Party party!

Then the assemblers danced in and began working on our orders.

My pair was done in about 5 minutes!

There was an overflowing sense of excitement when I got my first MYOH pair. I know it's probably psychological but it felt oh-so-comfortable and just so pretty on my feet!
For P900+ a pair, it did not seem too expensive anymore. I wanted to go back and customize my old pairs with pins too. After just a little over 2 hours of Brazillian-loving at the #MYOH2014 event, i was officially hooked.

Make Your Own Havaianas will be open to the public from May 8 - May 11, 2014. Visit the Glorietta Activity Center to check out your style options - entrance is free! Go and get yourself hooked!

Movie Stars Cafe

A few weeks ago, my sister-in-law was telling me about a newly opened concept restaurant near Mall of Asia. She said it had a movie star theme very similar to Planet Hollywood in the states. I was intrigued and honestly thought that since it's a local version, it will feature local artists and movies. When she mentioned actors and actresses will be serving our food, i was even more intrigued...really, mga artista???

It turned out, the servers all wore costumes from hollywood movies. From the likes of Spiderman to Darth Vader, it was really a fun experience. We brought Troy there on his 5th birthday last March 7 and he was truly star-strucked! The place displayed a lot of Hollywood memorabilia which they say are authentic pieces from the states. They had shows every couple of minutes which was both entertaining to kids and adults. It was indeed so much fun for the whole family!
